Just now belatedly learning of Brad Parker's passing. I knew him through my parents first, my father having worked at the Monterey Peninsula Herald from the early 1940s until his death in 1956 from a brain tumor. Then I got to know Brad better when I got a job as a newsroom intern in 1971 for the summer. Although I never knew him closely, he stood out and I liked him immensely.

Brad Parker - a gentle man, quite in smile yet always the most friendly to me in my relatively short time at The Herald. God blessed you with the life you wanted.

Brad was a talented editor of the old school who helped many a reporter achieve clarity and grace in their writing - often without thanks - and he did so minus the angst and drama so often associated with deadline journalism. Best of all, he and Polly had committed lives outside the newsroom. They enriched our community.

Dear Parkers - Many condolences to you all. Brad was a wonderful human, so kind, thoughtful, and courageous. I have such fond memories of him working out in the "back forty" on Dorey Lane and driving us around Monterey in the "heap". You all are in my thoughts.

Brad Parker! Now I remember him. How could I have forgotten? Seems to me son Jeff and I were in the same class at Monte Vista school and perhaps even Cub Scouts.
I vividly remember your dad out in the backyard sawing logs with a chain saw. Great man!

Brad was great -- a second father to me, and a damned good one at that. Amazing what he was able to accomplish in his life.

Mr. Parker was our neighbor when I was growing up on Dorey Way in Monterey. His ability to ignore his handicap was amazing. I can remember him digging fence post holes by hand using only his upper body.
