David Charles Nagai October 14, 1943 ~ May 10, 2012 CARMEL VALLEY - David Charles Nagai, 68, a longtime resident, passed away May 10, 2012 from complications following heart surgery. David was born to Ben Noriaki and Yoriko Ann Nagai on October 14, 1943, in Granada, Colorado, a World War II internment center. Following the war they returned to the family farm near Atwater, CA where David attended Mitchell Elementary and Atwater High School while working on the farm. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on a supply ship. He later earned his degree at Long Beach State University where he studied Philosophy and Asian American Studies. He met Cindy Morris while in Long Beach and they were married on November 22, 1972. They then moved to Carmel Valley in 1975 to raise their family. David contributed to the local community by serving as a volunteer firefighter at the Mid Valley Fire Department. He enjoyed Carmel High and Cal sporting events with family as well as golfing, fishing, and gardening. David will be remembered for his youthfulness and his dry sense of humor. But he will live foremost in our minds for the love and support he gave his children and the laughter he shared with his grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Cindy; his parents and his brother, Gene Nagai. He is survived by his three children: Christian (Charlott) Nagai, Jennifer (Paul) Borgen and Dustin Nagai (Sara Scanlan); his six grandchildren: Danielle, Tyler, Matsu, Lucas, Matthew and Donovan; his brother, Gordon Nagai; his sister, Janet Tanaka; and scores of other family members and friends. A celebration of David Nagai's life will be held at 11:00am on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at the Carmel Valley Community Center. A reception will follow.
