Ralph E. Moffett

Ralph E. Moffett May 7, 1912 ~ April 27, 2006 MONTEREY - Ralph E. Moffett, age 93, died on April 27. A native of Oakland, CA he has made his home in Pacific Grove for the past 50 years. He served as part of the 8th Army Air Corps in England and Africa during World War II. At the time of his retirement in 1975, he was the deputy Comptroller at the Naval Postgraduate School where he had worked for 30 years. Mr. Moffett enjoyed collecting first flight covers from the pioneer days of airmail service and was a founding member of the American Airmail Society. He was also a member of the Pacific Grove Masonic Lodge, Carmel Stamp Club, the American Airmail Society, St. Mary's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church and was treasurer of the Civilian Recreation Club of the Naval Postgraduate School for many years. He passionately followed baseball from the days of the Oakland Oaks and then the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland A's after they moved west. Mr. Moffett is survived by his wife, Judy; his sons, Robert (Denise) of Cupertino and Richard Moffett of Sunnyvale; his daughter, Diana (Nelson) Powell of Atherton; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A Celebration of His Life will take place at The Little Chapel by-the-Sea in Pacific Grove on Tuesday, May 2 at 1:00 PM under the direction of The Paul Mortuary followed by burial at El Carmelo Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the donor's favorite charity.
