Robert Dixon Obituary

Robert passed away at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, after a brief and sudden illness, surrounded by his family and close friends. Robert was born in South Bend, IN to Lydia (Green) and Robert Dixon, Sr. He was raised in Niles, MI by his paternal Aunt and Uncle, Menella (Dixon) and Rufus Leath, after the death of his father Robert, Sr. He graduated from Niles High School (1968), enlisted in the U. S. Army, and was stationed at the Presidio of Monterey. After discharge from the Army (1972), Robert made Monterey his home. He attended MPC and the Monterey Institute of International Studies, where he received a B. A. in Political Science. He then worked for Young Adults for Action in Seaside as a VISTA Volunteer and joined the Monterey Legal Aid Society in 1975 as a paralegal. In the 1980s, Robert moved into sales as an insurance agent and eventually ended up in the car business, staying for over 30 years. He retired from his management position at Val Strough Cypress Coast Dealership Group in 2019. In 1979, Robert married Lynne White in Teaneck, N. J. They had two sons Robert "Robby" (1983) and John (1987). Always a supportive husband and father, he celebrated the marriage of both sons and loved being a "Grandad" to his three grandchildren, Myles and his twin granddaughters, Avery and Sadye. His favorite hobby was listening to music. He loved all genres of music and enjoyed playing from his vast collection. A sports enthusiast, he was a diehard SF Giants, Golden State Warriors and Forty-Niners fan. He volunteered at the Pebble Beach AT&T Pro-Am on the Contestant Hospitality Committee (20 years) where he enjoyed meeting and supporting his favorite golfers. A lifelong supporter and volunteer for a variety of charities and organizations, Robert's spirit of volunteerism is part of his legacy. Robert is survived by his wife, Lynne White Dixon, sons Robert K. Dixon III (Meghan) and John M. Dixon (Ashley), his grandchildren Myles Joseph Dixon, Avery Lynne Dixon, and Sadye Mae Dixon, and a host of family and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother and father Lydia (Green) Torbert and Robert K. Dixon, Sr. , and his Aunt and Uncle, Menella and Rufus Leath. Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, at 10 am at the Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park in Seaside, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Robert's name to either The Village Project, Inc. or Chartwell School both in Seaside.

Though I only knew Robert briefly in the early 1970's as a young teen, his kind spirit, gentle demeanor and the way he treated all those around him, from ages 2-62 and everyone in between, left a lasting impression on me. Sending much love and aloha to all those whose lives he touched, but most especially to his beloved family.

Robert was a wonderful man who carried himself with such dignity and spirit. My heart goes out to Lynn, Robby, and John. I had the distinct pleasure of knowing each of them individually at Chartwell School. I pray you have the strength to adjust to this change in your lives.
