Robert P. Williams

1945 - 2022

Robert Peter Williams (Bob) of Salinas CA passed away at SVMH, October 17 after a long fight with lymphoma. He was surrounded by family. Bob was 77 years old.Bob was born June 8, 1945, at the US Naval Hospital in Oakland CA to Earl and Jean (Satran) Williams. He grew up in Southern California and graduated from Redlands High School in 1963. Bob attended San Bernadino Valley Junior College then transferred to San Jose State College in 1966 where he met his future wife, Maureen Delaney. He was in the US Naval Reserve and was called to active duty during the Vietnam War serving as a radioman in Yokosuka, Japan from 1967 to 1969. Upon his return Bob and Maureen married in April 1969 and he continued his education at Fresno State College where he earned a BS in Civil Engineering in 1971. He worked two years for Fresno County Public Works, then passed the registration exam to become a Professional Engineer.In 1978, Bob and Maureen moved to Oak Hills in Salinas where they raised their two sons, Mark and Michael. He was a devoted family man, always putting Maureen and the boys first. Sports and Saturday BBQ's set the weekly schedule. Growing up in Southern California, he was an avid LA Rams and Dodgers fan. Bob played golf on Sundays, rain or shine, and he followed Tiger Woods. Bob was slightly more conservative than his wife, but they managed to meet mid aisle. Bob and Maureen traveled extensively until the pandemic and lymphoma kept them at home.Bob spent his career in construction, first in the field as project manager and later in the office estimating. He worked for Ball, Ball and Brosamer, Granite, DeSilva Gates, and Raisch construction companies and he retired from Graniterock Co. in 2018. He progressed from driveways to freeways and runways. Bob was meticulous thanks to early training as a draftsman, and he took great pride in his work. Bob was predeceased by his parents and his older brother Jeffrey Williams of Redlands CA. He is survived by his younger brother John Williams of North Carolina; his wife of 53 years, Maureen; his son Mark Williams (Christina Balesteri) of Encinitas CA; his son Michael Williams (Kathryn) of San Pedro CA; and his two granddaughters Delaney and Blair Williams of Encinitas.Inurnment will be at the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery in Seaside CA, the date yet to be decided.
