Sally Rothenberg Weil

1923 - 2013

CARMEL – Sally Rothenberg Weil passed away on July 3, 2013 at her home, comforted by her husband and family. She was 90 years old.
Born on April 9, 1923, Sally spent her childhood in Swampscott, Massachusetts. She moved to Los Angeles as a teenager with her family and it was there that she met her future husband and best friend, Judson (Judd) Weil. After marrying in Liberal, Kansas on September 15, 1944, Judd and Sally returned to Los Angeles where they raised their two daughters, Deborah and Marjorie. They later moved to San Francisco before retiring in Carmel.
Passionate about family, art, politics, travel, music, and her daily walks on Carmel Beach, Sally enjoyed a full and active life with her husband, friends and family. She brought joy to every family occasion, most recently tap dancing at her 90th birthday party. Art was her true passion. As a plein air painter, she was an active member of the Monterey Peninsula Art Foundation and an enthusiastic participant in art classes at the Carmel Foundation.
Sally is survived by her husband of 68 years, Judson Weil; her children, Deborah Stern and husband, Peter of Carmel, Marjorie Stone and husband, James of Needham, MA; grandchildren, Sarah Stern-Benoit and husband, Colin of San Francisco, Katherine Stern and husband, Mark Brady of Santa Cruz, Elizabeth Stone and husband, Andrew Ellsworth of San Francisco, and Andrew Stone of Somerville, MA.
The family thanks Dr. Nancy Rubin, Dr. Georgina Heal and her caretakers from Central Coast Senior Services. Services will be private. Donations in Sally's honor may be made to Central Coast VNA and Hospice, the American Cancer Society or the Carmel Foundation.
