ADOLPHUS KELLY Obituary
KELLY, Mr. Adolphus E., a resident of 3415 Southmont Drive, expired June 9, 2001. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. from Pilgrim Baptist Church with Rev. Hudgens officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with Ross-Clayton Funeral Home directing. He was employed with the Postal Service for seven years and Maxwell-Gunter Air Force, as a Civil Service Employment for 36 years. Mr. Kelly retired January 1, 1985, after ving 43 years of dedicated Civil Service. During his employment, he was recognized for superior performance, and was awarded certificates and honors for excellent service. Mr. Kelly knew his rights as a Civil Service employee and used those rights for himself and his friends. He was also an avid reader and noted historian of Alabama History. He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted and loving wife, Arie G. Kelly who also was his caretaker for the last 13 years. Adolphus and Arie, would have celebrated their 42nd Anniversary, on June 14, 2001. Other survivors includes a devoted daughter, Ms. Arleesa Kelly of Montgomery, AL; two sons, Mr. Adolphus (Margarita) Kelly, Jr. of Aurora, Colorado and Mr. Herman Kelly of Austin, Texas; one grandson, Mark E. Kelly and two great-grandchildren, Tony and Asia Kelly of Aurora, Colorado; two nieces, Dr. Levora 'Cookie' Graham, Harbor City, California and Mrs. Illa Faye Cottrell, Los Angeles, California and a former daughter-in-law, Mrs. Alicia K. Smith. Five sisters-in-law, Mrs. Vinnie M. Garrett, Mrs. Dina M. Thompson of Childersburg, AL, Mrs. Annie L. Samuels, Bronx, New York, Mrs. LeEtta Anderson, New York, New York, Mrs. Dorothy Exxum Garrett, Los Angeles, California and Mrs. Lurana Kelly of Montgomery, AL; one brother-in-law, Mr. R. T. Dates, Childersburg, AL; two great-aunts-in-law, Mrs. Sarah Noland, Seattle, Washington and Mrs. Lillie M. Wesley, Childersburg, AL; a most caring and devoted nurse, Mr. Elmo Quinnie; devoted cousins, Mrs. Ruby Marshall and Mr. H. W. Kelly; two dependable helping friends, Mr. Sidney Brown and Mr. Walter C. Frazier and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews-in-law, the Pilgrim Baptist Church Family and all members of Tallaseehatchie Baptist Church, Childersburg, AL. A special thanks to a very devoted, loving and caring friend and Arie's Prayer Partner, Mrs. Pearl Merriweather who made herself available night or day.
