Col. Deschaines Obituary
Huntsville - Col. Carroll Edward Deschaines of Huntsville, AL, age 89, passed away on May 6, 2021 after an extended illness. with his wife of 61 years, Sybil Mulder Deschaines at his side. He is preceded in death by his parents Louis Joseph and Elsie Marie (Plourde) Deschaines, his brothers George Emile and Lawrence Robert Deschaines, his sister Doris Mae Kuplic and his son, Keith Louis Deschaines. Col. Deschaines is survived by his wife, Mary Sybil Mulder Deschaines, his sisters, Theresa Irene Thibeault, Nancy Jane O'Connell and Beatty Ann Cairns. Col. Deschaines' surviving children are Carroll Andrew Deschaines, Gary Edward Deschaines and Patrice Marie Deschaines. Surviving nieces and nephews, Anne K. McGuire (Kevin), Julie K. Tanner (Jim), Craig P. Kelley (Jenny) and Philip W. Kelley (Meg).
Colonel Deschaines served honorably for 26 years in the United States Air Force and among other assignments, served as a navigator on a B47 at Ellington AFB and as a navigator/bombardier on a EB66 aircraft during the Vietnam war. Upon returning to stateside, Col. Deschaines was assigned to numerous command positions and then as commandant of the Air Force ROTC at the University of Cincinnati. Among the awards and commendations, Col Deschaines received the AF Legion of Merit (2), Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medals (6), AF Commendation Medals (2), AF Technical Achievement Award, AF Scientific Achievement Award, Orin Snyder Award, Presidential Unit Citation (2), National Defense Service Medal and the Combat Readiness Medal. During his 42 years in the Research and Development industry, Col Deschaines was also associated with Teledyne Brown Engineering, Clark and Stender, Inc. and TASC.
Colonel Deschaines loved to spend time at his farm with his wife, Sybil and nature's natural beauty. He will be missed as a loving husband, father, and uncle.
A graveside service will take place at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday May 22, 2021 at Pine View Memorial Gardens in Wetumpka, AL.
