Gregory Calhoun Obituary
Montgomery - Gregory B., a resident of Montgomery, AL. expired Thursday, October 11, 2018. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at True Divine Baptist Church, Rev. Steven D. Huntley, Pastor, with Dr. Willie Welch III, Officiating with interment in Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Public visitation will be held Thursday, October 18, 2018 at First Baptist Church ( GWP ) from 2;00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The body will in repose at the church from 8:30 a.m. until services time with Lewis - Robusky Mortuary LLC directing.

Mr. Calhoun gave people second chances. He allowed those that were in prison to work in his stores. He said that was what the Lord led him to do. He was a good and kind man that will never be forgotten. I know that when he entered the gates of heaven that God looked at him and said " well done, good and faithful servant". I won't forget the time that I worked for him in his Tuskegee store. Thank you Mr. Calhoun. You are loved. "Granny"

My heart is heavy knowing you're no longer here. You will always be missed because of your warm smile,big heart and the love you had for your community. You was there for the community in the early eighties when jobs was hard to come by offering jobs and you continue to be there lending a helping hand , you gave me my first job. All glory to God for such a man as Greg. Although he was a man of a few words he allowed his work and love for God and his family to speak for him. We all come and grow to fulfill our purpose, live just and walk in the blessings of God. Greg is one of the best to do just that. He knew and fulfilled his purpose early in life, was blessed to marry his sweetheart and have the children of his dreams, the job of his dreams and I only hope that as friends each of us was what he needed us to be. Greg often told me how my father the late W. B. Lover encouraged and influenced him in life and how he admired him. Who knew that he would become an entrepreneur as Mr. Lover was. A lesson well learned, BE ENCOURAGED, you don't know what the future holds for those you encounter in life. Greg has left legacy for the community of Montgomery and surrounding area. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Calhoun, on many occasions due to his ever presence in the supermarket off Fairview Ave in Montgomery Ala where my Aunt E .. Blue was regular customer, He was always helpful and willingness to please the citizens of Montgomery or out of town visitors...I am blessed to have met such a gentleman and wonderful spirit not many left of his caliber .He was true man of conviction he served the community well. I was sadden by the news. I worked for Calhoun Foods in Tuskeegee from 1987to 1996 until I relocated to Birmingham. That was my very first job. That's was one of the best jobs I ever had. Words can not express that the gratitude that we feel for having know Gregory B. Calhoun for more than 40 years. Greg was a part of our family through love not by kin. He served as a source of inspiration with his "I can" spirit. I am sure that he has been welcomed "home" by all of his departed love ones, including my (our) mother, Mary Miles Brown.
