Nanney, Jimmy Ray

Dr. Jimmy Ray Nanney, 72, died Friday, October 28, 2016, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born December 19, 1943, to Carlos Ray and Dona Mae McFerrin Nanney. He was a graduate of IAHS, IJC, and the University of Mississippi, where he earned his master's and doctorate degrees. He retired as a professor at the Auburn University-Montgomery after 35 years of service, where he taught mathematics, calculous, astronomy, and differential equations. He had several published research papers. He loved astronomy, star gazing, watching old science fiction movies, and flower gardening. He was an avid reader, and he had a genuine great sense of humor.

Services will be at 2 p. m. Sunday, October 30, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Rev. Phillip Box officiating. Burial will be in the Kirkville Cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Dona Mae McFerrin Nanney; and three brothers, Frankie Wade Nanney (Laura), and Henry Thomas Nanney (Jo Ann), all of Fulton, and Van William Nanney (Angela) of Alpharetta, GA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Ingram Nanney; and his father, Ray Nanney. Visitation will be from 9 a. m. until service time on Sunday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton.
