BROWN, Joel Ralph, age 82,a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, met his Heavenly Father, Thursday, February 12,2009. Funeral services will beheld Sunday, February 15,2009, at 2:00 p.m. at EastmontBaptist Church, 4505 AtlantaHwy., Montgomery, AL, withRev. Mike Northcutt, Rev. ArtLong and Rev. Ed Bowmanofficiating. Burial will follow inAlabama Heritage Cemetery.Visitation will be held Saturday, February 14, 2009, from5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.Mr. Brown is survived by hisloving wife of 43 years, Barbara S. Brown; four daughters, Pamela (Richard) Jenkins, JoEllen (Byron) Robinson, Patricia Frost and TerriBotts; a son, Robert Thompson; eight grandchildren andsix great grandchildren; twobrothers, Shelton (Nelda)Brown, Mobile, AL and Sam(Sharon) Brown, Charlotte,NC; one sister, Carolyn Moorer, Brewton, AL; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr.Brown retired from the City ofMontgomery on June 1, 1974,after 24 years. During thoseyears, he served as ChiefClerk of Montgomery Fire Department under Chief RobertLangley and City Auditor andComptroller under Mayor EarlJames and Mayor Jim Robinson. Mr. Brown was founder ofComala Credit Union and retired as President after 18years on April 1, 1990. Thecredit union became a passion of his and having servedas treasurer of Comala, pastPresident of Montgomerychapter of credit unions, aslead Director five years ofAlabama Corporate CreditUnion, past league boardsecretary for two years, CUNADirector for three years, Vice-Chairman of CUNA, 8th District, member of FoundersClub, Chairman of League ofAuditing Committee for fiveyears, and member of theLeague award's building andhistorical committees. He wasa graduate of the Universityof Alabama; a member ofthe Alcazar Shrine Temple,Montgomery Lodge Number11; Elizabeth Armstrong Chapter Order of Eastern Star andserved on Rainbow Girl's Advisory Board. He also servedas an active member of Elmore Camp Gideon's International. Mr. Brown taughtSenior Adult Sunday School atEastmont Baptist Church andserved as Chairman of theDisability Ministry and was amember of the Food ServiceCommittee. Honorary pallbearers will be Employeesand Board of Directors of hisbeloved Comala CreditUnion and Mills/Brown Sunday School Class of EastmontBaptist Church. Active pallbearers will be Taylor JeffMoore, Greg Hooper, JonPappas, Josh Ford, Joel Frost,Ben Lee, Colt Knighten, Darren Brown and Case Brundidge.
