JUNE COLLIER-FLETCHER Obituary

COLLIER Fletcher, June, of Harness Hill, Montgomery, Alabama, and formerly of East Prairie Missouri, passed away after a brief illness on September 9, 2006. Visitation will be at Leak Memory Chapel from 5:00 - 8:00 on Thursday, September 14th. Funeral services will be held at Frazier Memorial United Methodist Church at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15th, with the Reverend John Ed Mathison officiating and Jay Lewis delivering the eulogy. One of Alabama's most influential women before her retirement, June was President and CEO of National Industries, Inc., once the largest private employer in Montgomery with 5,000 employees. Her company designed and manufactured electrical wiring assemblies for Ford, Chrysler, and many other companies. She was also active in garment manufacturing, petroleum exploration and production, and farming. Her influence was national in scope. June provided testimony to Congress on automotive issues and served by invitation of the Secretary of Commerce as a member of the Commerce Department's prestigious Industrial Policy Advisory Committee. Her honors include selection to the Committee of 200, an organization of the top 200 women business leaders in America and the 1984 Industry Week Excellence in Management Award. She held an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Troy State University. June's exploits have been documented in the New York Times, The Journal of Commerce, Washington Post, Savvy magazine, Fortune, and Industry Week, among others. She was frequently invited to post guest editorials in USA Today. She appeared on nationally broadcast television programs such as The Larry King Show, The Phil Donahue Show, CNN's Crossfire, The Today Show, PBS' LateNight America, and CBS Evening News. June was a sought-after speaker on the subject of international trade, cris-crossing the country lecturing various groups and organizations on her view of how best to build economic competitiveness and protect the American economy from decline. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Beulah Mathis, her brother, Aaron Mathis, and her granddaughter, Joli Davis. June leaves behind a legacy of memories to be cherished by her husband, Tim Fletcher, her five children, Kara Shea Davis and her husband Jim of Wetumpka, Ondi Cain and her husband Tom of Dothan, Roessler Collier, Arin Burroughs and her husband Tom of Tuscaloosa, and Kohler Coller and his wife Beth of Auburn. Her stepchildren are Tim Fletcher, Jr., and his wife Kathryn of Montgomery and Carrie Fletcher of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alia Martin, Sage Davis, Abby Cain, Whitney Bond, Carli Cain, Trace Cain, Morgan Burroughs, Cailin Burroughs, Alice Burroughs, Nick Frith, Nathan Fletcher, and Naomi Fletcher. Her great-grandchildren are Jolee Martin and Kira Martin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society. Leak-Memory Chapel Directing
