Irene Marie Hill (Burkhardt) of
North Wales, Pennsylvania, was welcomed home on April 8, 2023, by her Heavenly Father and her beloved parents and five siblings after a long illness. Born in Northeast Philadelphia on February 3, 1939, to Margaret (Dougherty) and James Burkhardt, Irene was a proud graduate of Little Flower High School in Philadelphia. She also attended classes at Holy Family College. Irene worked at Smith Kline and French as a valued administrative assistant, where she met her husband, Dave. After marrying and becoming a mom, Irene served as a school volunteer room-mom, field trip mom, family cheerleader and chauffeur, gourmet cook, but most of all, dispensed unconditional love to her family, friends, and even her children's friends. A young person never entered her house without being offered food and called "hun." Irene went back to work in customer service at the Harriet Carter catalog and enjoyed friendships with her colleagues there as well as telling stories of taking calls from celebrities who were ordering from the catalog. She was an avid traveler as a young woman and again after her kids were grown, enjoying trips to Mexico, the Canary Islands, Spain, France, and several trips to Ireland. A long time member of the Saint Stanislaus parish, Irene was very fond of her Irish heritage and her Philadelphia roots. She also enjoyed the community and fellowship at North Wales Baptist Church where she was a part of the Y Walkers and a women's Bible study group. Irene loved to root for the underdog in all situations, and was known for her kindness and empathy towards anyone who needed a hand. She enjoyed lifelong friendships with "The Girls" from Smith Kline; Dee, Bea, Marie, Evie, and her maid-of-honor, Kathy Slater. Irene was predeceased by her parents and siblings, John, James, and Robert Burkhardt, Naomi (Donald) Stoll, and Joan (Timothy) Wright. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, David Hill, two children, Christopher and Jacqueline (David Baltozer) and three grandchildren, Chrishaun Hill, Jude and Margaret Baltozer, along with special sister in-laws Sheila Burkhardt, Vicki Burkhardt, Barbara (Dale) Gallagher, Sue (Larry) Hill, Nancy Turner, and others, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank the nurses and aides at Elm Terrace, and the caring staff of Ascend Hospice. Relatives and friends may call between 10:00 and 11:00 AM, Friday April 14, 2023 at North Wales Baptist Church, 136 Shearer Street,
North Wales, PA 19454, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Burial services will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Roselyn. Send condolences to
