Thomas Hipp Obituary

Dr. Thomas J. Hipp, son of Norbert J. and Loretta C. Hipp, was released from his struggles with two cancers to God. Born in 1943, he died Dec 1, 2022. Left to love and remember him are his wife of 54 years, Lynne, two sons and their families, Kevin T. and wife, Mary (children Brian, Katie, and Molly) of Verona, NJ, and COL Sean J. and wife, Christine (children Ian, Hannah, and Aimee) of San Antonio, TX, his beloved siblings, Col.Gerald T. Hipp, Ret., (Ann) (Savannah, GA) and Anne Hipp, (Blue Bell, PA) cousins Maureen Bilder O'Connell (Ed) and Megan Bilder Palermo (Bob), and John Bilder, DDS., and nieces and nephews. A LaSalle College High School 1961 graduate, he went on to Mt. St. Mary's College and the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston. From there, he trained in Pediatrics at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children for three years which included the position of Chief Resident. Tom then served in the US Army for three years during the Vietnam War. His passion was Pennridge Pediatrics, where he practiced with beloved partners for 45 years, retiring at age 76. Working with children and their families was a joy for him. During that time, he was Chief of Pediatrics at Grand View Hospital for years, then on the Board of GVH for 20-plus years, serving 9 years as Chairman of the Board. He was the first doctor to hold that position. Should you be so inclined, remember Tom when you donate to any children's charity, research in Multiple Myeloma, Prostate Cancer or Grand View Health Foundation. Funeral Mass will be at St. Maria Goretti, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield, PA 19440. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 am and Mass at 11:00 am on December 27, 2022. Hello,
My name is Jim Quinn. In 1967 I was on the staff of Delmont Scout Res, Valley forge council. Tom was going to med school at the time, and his job was taking care of the stores in camp. Tom was a great mentor to me that summer. I have a group picture of the staff that year with Toms signature on it. My condolences to his family,
James Quinn

I had the pleasure of working with Dr Hipp in Pediatrics at Grandview Hospital as a young nurse from 1974-1982.
A few years later when I had my own two boys he was so helpful in advising me on how to handle two boys close in age as he had two of his own.
Sending condolences to the family.

Dear Lynn, may you find peace and comfort in the memories of Tom! He was most helpful to me and my career choice of a pediatric orthopedic surgeon! I remember his V/W bug and his willingness to help me to return to my home in Lancaster,PA during our years at Mt.St. Mary´s! He obviously will be missed by many people whose lives he has touch! May he know the peace of Christ and rest in God´s presence!

Dr. Hipp was there for the birth of all three of my boys. He was the first one I spoke to about my children and the first doctor I saw at Pennridge Pediatrics. I was immediately fond of him. He definitely had that "dad" characteristic of being genuine and caring. He accurately predicted the adult height of my boys before they were the age of 1. His experience/medical intelligence recognized that something was wrong with my son's heart. He sent him for testing at chop and was surprised when the results came back negative. 26 years later, what the amazing Dr. Hipp suspected was finally found! I adored and appreciated him. I insisted my boys had him for every doctor visit, because I felt he truly cared and listened to what we had to say. I thank his family for sharing him with so many families over the years and am deeply sorry for your loss.

Dear Lynn and family,
Working with Dr. Hipp and all of PPA are some of my fondest nursing memories. He had a wonderful sense of humor, especially about his handwriting! One if my favorite stories is of the time he was the only doctor in the office for a sick visit where the parents were both deaf. He told us he was trying to write for the parents and they couldn´t read it so they asked him to please print and he replied "I am"! I will forever remember him and how caring he was to all of the patients including my own children. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless. Wendy

Dear Lynne, Kevin, and Sean,
We are saddened to hear of Tom´s passing...
We honored to have been his colleagues, so very blessed that he cared for our four sons...
Your HUSBAND and FATHER was, indeed, the consummate PHYSICIAN...
TOM certainly exhibited-GENTLENESS,EQUANIMITY,TEMPERANCE,HONESTY,SUPERB COMMUNICATION SKILLS, and EXEMPLARY DIGNITY-truly exhibiting an example for all physicians to look up to and model after as an example of" how to do it the right way"...
So very fortunate are we that he crossed our path...
You are very much in our hearts and prayers...
MOST SINCERELY,
Kathy and Frank Kucer
