Kathrine Burtis Obituary

Kathrine Rose (Dabney) Burtis
October 18, 1941 - October 17, 2024
Kathrine Burtis, known to most as Kathy, passed away early Thursday morning in her home that she designed and filled with love in Montrose, CO. She would have turned 83 years old the following day. She is loved and missed by so many, but definitely none more than her husband, Haney Burtis, and her family.
Kathrine was born in Ophir, CO to Kathrine Rose (Penasa) Dabney and John Wesley Dabney. She was the second of their four children and is preceded in death by her father, mother, and older sister Mary Louise Waitz. Kathrine's younger sister, Helen (Charles) Mortensen, resides in Janesville, WI and her brother, John Dabney, lives in West Richland, WA.
Kathrine grew up and went to school in Montrose. She was always an active person and loved the outdoors. She was a carhop at the local Shanty drive-in when she met the love of her life and husband of 64 years, Haney Burtis. Together they built a dental practice in Montrose where Kathy ran the front office the last 30 years until they retired in 2017. Kathy's greatest joy was the family she created and cared for with Haney. They had three children, Janice (John) Burtis-Raftopoulos, Haney Burtis Jr., and Greta (John) Rytlewski. She was blessed with one grandchild, Jonathan Rytlewski (18). Kathy's kind nature, giving spirit, and unwavering support and encouragement were evident to anyone who came in contact with her, but her family reaped the benefits with innumerable memories of a wife, mom, and 'Grammy' that was one of a kind.
Kathy left this world and all that knew her better. Her family had their private goodbye. In lieu of a memorial service, Kathy would want you to pull your family and friends close and let them know how much they are loved and appreciated. The family asks you to consider a donation to Hospice HopeWest in place of flowers or gifts.

My greatest Sympathy to the family. Katherine was in my grade in school when our family lived in Montrose from 1947 to 1955. Those were wonderful school days, attending school with Katherine & Mary Louise.

We were blessed to be present and get acquainted with Kathrine and her dear husband, Haney, when we attended their daughter, Janice´s wedding to John Raftopoulis. It was immediately evident that she was a friendly, caring and loving person. Gus and I are sad that there was not enough time to get to know her better. We know from being close to her family that she was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. God rest her soul and give Dr. BURTIS and his family comfort in knowing she is at peace. May her memory be eternal. With love and sympathy, Gus and Christine Halandras

I'm so sorry for the loss of your wife, mother and grandmother. She was a second mother to me, and I was blessed to have been a part of her life. My sister Miki provided a wonderful vision of her in Heaven, sharing a cup of coffee with my mom and talking about their families. May all of your wonderful memories of her give you some comfort.
