August 5, 1944 - January 10, 2021

Jackie Lewis, a true southern belle with a huge heart, a caring spirit, and a great sense of humor, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021. She will be missed the most by her devoted husband, Duane Lewis, and her two loving children, Cami and David Lewis.

Born in Henderson, to Ralph Farrell Sikes and Helen Maxine Bobbitt Sikes, Jackie grew up in the Burnsville area of Anson County, graduated from Anson Senior High School in 1962, and attended Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte, from 1962 to 1965.

She met her husband on a blind date in 1963, and married him four years later, at which point they moved to Greensburg, Pa., for a short time. The couple eventually settled on Lake Norman in Mooresville, where they raised their two children.

Jackie worked as a registered nurse for more than 30 years, first at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, then at Total Care Home Health in Salisbury, and later at the Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She took a break from nursing from 1998 to 2008 to work as a real estate broker in Mooresville.

Once their children were grown, Jackie and Duane moved to Sunset Beach. There, she joined the Seaside Methodist Church, enjoyed painting, walks on the beach, and hosting AirBnB guests.

After being diagnosed with cancer in 2020, she and Duane returned to Lake Norman to live in Davidson.

Her fondest memories were of the ski trips she and the family enjoyed over the years.

In addition to her husband, Duane Lewis, and her two children, David Lewis (Kristin) and Cami Lewis (Tim Beaver), she leaves behind five grandchildren, Lane Lewis, Caden Beaver, Carson Beaver, Allison Vecchio and Nickolas Ross; four siblings, Joye Baucom (Don), Judy Sikes, Ralph Sikes Jr. (Melissa) and Ricky Sikes; and many special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Novant Health Hospice for the excellent care, support, and service they provided during her final days.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Novant Health Hospice, 324 North McDowell St., Charlotte, North Carolina 28204.

Sorry to hear about Jackie. The Lewis Family were long time neighbors of ours on LKN and we have missed them since their move. Jackie was the first person to welcome us to the neighborhood. Condolences to Duane, David, Cami and rest of family.

Jackie was the sweetest, most delightful Airbnb host we could have asked for when we visited Sunset Beach. She always made us feel so welcome in their big, beautiful home! Jackie and Duane were both sweethearts and it was evident that that loved each other. Jackie shared with me in November that she was struggling with cancer, but she said that she was happy and comfortable where she was in God's plan. She said that God is good and she is blessed! That pretty much sums up this beautiful friend who I am forever grateful to have met! A trip to Sunset Beach is never going to be the same without her beautiful soul, but I feel confident that she is in heaven! Until we meet again, my friend...
Prayers for Jackie, her family and friends who miss her so very much! I am truly blessed to have spent time with Jackie ~~a true southern belle she was. ❤

Like most of us Burnsville folks, did not have much contact with Jackie after high school; but remember her as a lovely and sweet lady. Our prayers are with you.

Cami, I never met your mom but you live through her in your caring spirit and sense of humor for which I have laughter as your ringtone as yours is infectious. I pray that you find peace in time for the love and care you gave your mother.
