Robert Mills Obituary

Robert Mills MOORESVILLE Robert Hebron Mills, 91, of Mooresville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. He was born on March 23, 1920 in Iredell County, to the late William Pinkney and Emma Blanche Sloop Mills. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy, and was a retired Police Chief from the Town of Davidson Police Department after 23 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Cornelius for 60 years, Williams Masonic Lodge #136 AF & AM, and Scottish Rite-Valley of Charlotte for 50 years. He was also a member of Oasis Shrine, Order of Eastern Star Long Creek Chapter #151, Mt. Mourne Lions Club, where he received the Jack Stickley Award. He was a member of the Mt. Mourne Volunteer Fire Department and of Davidson United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Dora Marlowe, Marie Isenhour, Mary Wilson; and brothers, Ray Mills, Johnnie Mills, and Kenneth Mills. Mr. Mills is survived by his wife of 69 years, Charlotte Stilwell Mills; and sister, Laurene McAllister of Mooresville. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Sunday, Feb. 12, at Davidson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jody Seymour and the Rev. Dr. Russell Montfort officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mimosa Cemetery in Davidson with Masonic Graveside Rites. The family received friends Saturday at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565 and/or the charity of donor's choice. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the Mills family. Condolences may be made to the family at cavin-cook.com.

Hebron was distant cousin of mine, we were neighbors growing up, he was a fine upstanding man, who God has given a long and sucessful life, rest assured he is at home with his loving Father in Heaven. My sympathy is with you in this time of loss.

What a great fellow! He helped me get my first job, always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. A card-carrying member of "The Greatest Generation!". Hebron will be missed. Rest in peace....
