With great sadness and love-filled hearts, the family of Nancy Bohnsack announce her passing on August 1, 2025. She is survived by her son, Kevin Bohnsack; granddaughters, Sabrina and Sydney; their mother, Denee Lewis; daughter, Karen Diffley and her husband Patrick Diffley; and grandsons: Ian, Gavin and Carson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Bohnsack.
Nancy was born in Los Angeles to Curby and Lillian Goldsmith on March 31, 1942. She was the eldest of five siblings: Carolyn, Gary, Bruce and Sarah. Nancy grew up on a dairy farm in Galt, California and attended Galt schools until graduating from Galt High School in 1960. She then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, CA in 1964. While there, Nancy, standing in the lunch line, met the love of her life, Dick Bohnsack. Nancy and Dick enjoyed 50 years of marriage.
Nancy and Dick eventually settled in
Morgan Hill, CA. Nancy loved the small town feel of Morgan Hill. This is where they raised their children, made so many good friends and attended Advent Lutheran Church. Nancy devoted over 30 years teaching kindergarten in the Morgan Hill Unified School District, where she touched many lives through her lessons and her passion for music and the arts. She was affectionately known as Mrs. B to her beloved students.
Nancy had many interests, from devoting many Saturdays teaching 4H sewing to Karen and friends, being a sideline cheerleader to Kevin and Karen's swim meets and soccer games and traveling and camping on family vacations. And of course, the famous "Tah Tah" travel group remained a constant in her life, getting together to laugh over margaritas.
Nancy even took a year leave from teaching in Morgan Hill to travel with Karen to London to teach kindergarten at The American School in London with cousins Steve and Cindy Wasley.
Above all, Nancy chose to live life to the fullest with many friends and family getting to participate in the adventure along with her.
Once she retired, Nancy and Dick moved to
Folsom, CA in 2006, never slowing down a bit. She dove right into volunteer activities, sharing her love of teaching in new ways. Nancy volunteered in her grandchildren's classrooms and at the library, reading stories and leading sing-alongs, helping to lead camps and tours at the Folsom Zoo and proudly supporting the arts by becoming a docent at the Harris Center for musical and theater productions. She had a gift for turning any space into a classroom filled with joy, music and connection.
Nancy and Dick also found a new welcoming church in the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Granite Bay. She and Dick loved to play hand bells at church and Nancy gave her time creating beautiful floral arrangements for Sunday services.
And in addition to all of these activities, Nancy also enjoyed quilting classes and made many new friends, sewing each week, creating beautiful quilts that will continue to be enjoyed for years to come.
Nancy was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by her many friends and family. We will remember her for her joy, generosity and love that she showed to all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Granite Bay, California, 6365 Douglas Blvd., Granite Bay. A reception will follow immediately in the reception hall at the same location.
There will be a second service in Morgan Hill at 2:00 p.m. on October 4, 2025 at Advent Lutheran Church, 16870 Murphy Avenue, Morgan Hill.
