Alma Nadine Buff Smith
January 29, 1937 - July 9, 2021
Mrs. Alma Nadine Buff Smith, 84, of Morganton, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family, following a long period of declining health.
Alma was born Jan. 29, 1937, in Burke County, to the late Lawrence Buff and Elizabeth Glazebrook. She was a devoted member of South Mountain Baptist Church for over 50 years and served as the church pianist and a Sunday school teacher for most of those years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Mavis Moore, Jenell McLean, Louise Fowler, Elenore Baxley, and Lorene Reece; and her brother, Ellis Buff.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Ivey E. Smith; son, Brian Smith and his wife, Robin; her only grandson, Peyton Smith; her only granddaughter, Landri Smith; and sister, Mary Ellen Stillwell.
The family would like to thank everyone from Burke Hospice & Palliative Care for their incredible caregiving for Alma during the last two years of her life.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, at Sossoman Funeral Home with Jamie Hazel officiating. The family will speak to friends following the service.
