Rev. Floyd Bottoms

The Rev. Floyd Grayson Bottoms, 94, of Casar Road in Casar, formerly of High Point, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 at Hospice at Wendover. Born on Feb. 3, 1914 in Guilford County, he was a son of the late J.B. Bottoms and Sally Newson Bottoms. He was a Methodist minister for 50 years and a member of the Western NC Conference and the men's bible class at Casar UMC. He was a graduate of High Point College and passed the conference course of study by attending the Chandler School of Theology and Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. He was an active Methodist minister for 50 years and served as minister of the following churches, High Point, Mitchell's Grove, Casar Charge in Cleveland County, Rhyne Heights in Lincolnton, First Methodist in Canton, Lenoir, Whitnel, First Avondale, First Caroleen in Rutherford County and Morganton Bethel Charge. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Floyd Bottoms Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Lincolnton and Larry Bottoms and his wife, Carole, of Casar; five grandchildren, Michael Bottoms, Julie Lucas, Tracy Bottoms, Lori Bottoms and Kenneth Bottoms; seven great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Hazel Hedgecock Bottoms; a son, Roger Bottoms; four brothers, James, Luke, Herman and Grady Bottoms; and three sisters, Ola Wright, Lucille Bottoms and Eva Logan. The family would like to thank Hospice of Cleveland County staff and caregivers Mike Beam and Harland and Evie Vaughn. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Herman Beck, Jack Waters and Mary VanDerwerken officiating. Burial will be at Casar United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Stamey Funeral Home.
