Frank I. "Jack" Rhodes

October 1, 1934 - October 26, 2022

Frank I. "Jack" Rhodes of Asheville, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022, after a period of declining health.

He was born Oct. 1, 1934, in Morganton. He was the son of the late Frank Murray Rhodes and the late Lillian Setzer Rhodes. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Murray Rhodes.

Mr. Rhodes is survived by his wife of 65 years, Roberta Reese Rhodes; two sons, Timothy Rhodes (Sharon) and Christopher Rhodes (Sandra), both of Asheville; two grandsons, Tyler Rhodes and Michael Rhodes of Nashville, Tenn. He is also survived by a brother, Robert Rhodes of Morganton; as well as several nieces and nephews; and his devoted dog, Cooper.

Jack retired from Southern Bell Telephone Co. after 41 years of service. He began his career as a lineman in Morganton and retired in Charlotte as state security manager for North Carolina. He was a proud veteran of the North Carolina National Guard retiring as captain after 29 years of service.

Jack was a very active and devoted member of various Episcopal Churches including Grace, Morganton; St. Andrews, Charlotte; and St. John's, Asheville. Jack enjoyed traveling and vacationing with his wife and family, and also enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and poker. Jack especially cherished time with his family spent on his back deck.

A celebration of life service to honor and remember Jack's life will be held Sunday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m., at St. John's Episcopal Church in Asheville, 290 Old Haw Creek Rd., with The Rev. Robert Lundquist officiating.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Rhodes' memory to St. John's Episcopal Church.
