Joseph Mitchell Obituary

Joseph L. Mitchell Jr. MORGANTON Mr. Joseph L. Mitchell Jr., 63, of Morganton, died Monday June 17, 2013, after a period of declining health. Mr. Mitchell was born July 6, 1949, in Burke County, a son of the late Joseph L. Sr. and Mary Alice Mitchell Mitchell. He was a member of Laurel Haven Baptist Church and retired as a furniture restorer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kelly Mitchell; a daughter, Cristy Mitchell; and several brothers and sisters. Surviving are his wife, Leah Mason Mitchell, of the home; three daughters, Gwen Hargett (Scott), of Connelly Springs, Pamela Terry (Rick), of Sanford and Mindy Mitchell, of Morganton; and five sons, Kelly Walsh, of Morganton, Joey Mitchell, of Tennessee, Jamie Mitchell, of Morganton, Chris Mitchell, of Asheville and Joe Mitchell, of Morganton. Also surviving are three sisters, Mary Louise Carswell, Joann Bradshaw and Helen Griffin; a brother, Kenny Mitchell; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his canine companion, "Smoke". A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 20, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, with the Revs. Ed Lawing and Jerry Conley officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese. Memorials may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690 or College Pines Nursing Center, P.O. Box 250, Valdese, NC 28690. An online guestbook and obituary is available at www.heritagefuneral services.com. Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory is assisting the Mitchell family.
