Joseph Propst Obituary

Joseph "Fred" Propst, 74, of Minneapolis, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, March 1, 2010, at Cannon Memorial Hospital. He was born in Burke County, on Aug. 23, 1935, and was a son of the late Fitzuh Lee Propst and Annie Lou Dale Propst. Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired employee of the Morganton ABC Store. Fred was a member of Cranberry Baptist Church and a former member of Cross Memorial Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ila Faye Pyatte Propst of the home; sons, Jeffery Joseph Prost and his wife, Gayle, of Charlotte and Ronald Dean Propst of Tucson, Ariz.; a grandchild, Jeremy Joseph Grant; a brother, Jerry Propst of Marion, Va.; and sisters, Lucille Phillips of Tucson and Sylvia Hernandez of San Francisco, Calif. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Thomas officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Valdese American Legion Post No. 234. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. We are certainly sorry about Fred's death and that it was too late to attend his funeral when we found out.
You are in our prayers, as we know Fred will be missed. He was a fine man
