Matthew Contreras Obituary
June 20, 2013 - February 10, 2022
Matthew Alexander Contreras, 8, of Drexel Rd. in Valdese, died tragically Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at Atrium Healthcare Center in Charlotte.
Matthew was born June 20, 2013, in Dade County, Fla., to Ingrid Lohany Escobar and Marvin Contreras. He was a member of One Family Christian Church, and a second grade student at Drexel Elementary School.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his siblings, Jacob Ruiz, Anderson Isaias, Genesis Abigail Contreras, Moises Jared Contreras and Joel Aguirre; maternal grandmother, Olga Cano; paternal grandmother, Mariana Calix; cousins, Santos Medina and wife, Jeimy Flores, Cristian Orellana and wife, Stacy Orellana, and Anthony Orellana; and his aunts, Marlen Orellana and Dina Cano.
Matthew was in Mrs. Emily Slone's class and Mrs. Donielle Rector's class at Drexel Elementary School. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Sara LeCroy, director of Student Services, Jessie Gravel, principal of Drexel Elementary, Ginger Stinson, principal of Heritage Middle School, and Stacy Lucky, teacher at Drexel Elementary.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 14, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. Officiating will be the Rev. Daniel Gutierrez. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Valdese.
The family will receive friends Monday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
In memory of Matthew, Drexel Elementary School is collecting memorial donations that will be given to the family to assist with expenses.
