Robert Monroe Gober, 83, went to his Heavenly Resting Place Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, after a period of declining health.
He was born July 30, 1937, in Chattanooga, Tenn., a son of the late Gus and Maude Whaley Gober.
Robert was an Ordained Elder in the Evangelical Methodist Church and pastored Bond Chapel E.M.C. in Chestertown, Md., for five years; Connelly Springs E.M.C. (now Crosslink) for 38 years; and served as interim Pastor at New Life Fellowship in Hickory for 10 years. Robert was a very caring Pastor and impacted countless lives. He enjoyed golfing and all sports, and supporting his children in all their activities.
Surviving are his wife, Evangeline Crowe Gober of the home; two daughters, Dr. Debbie Gober of Columbus, Ga., and Barbie Shatley (Neil) of Nebo; and a son, Dr. Stephen Gober (Karoline) of Oviedo, Fla. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Christopher Shatley (Landyn), Tyler Shatley (Natalie), Sierra Shatley Johnson (Andrew), Natalia Gober and Fernando Gober; and great-grandchildren, Boone Shatley, Sutton Shatley, and Logan Johnson (due in April).
Due to COVID-19, a private funeral service for family only will be held Saturday, Jan. 16, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with the Rev. Jonathan Reece officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to World Gospel Mission (Mayo Ministry), P.O. Box 948, Marion, IN 46952-0948 or to The Francis Asbury Society (Harriman Ministry) P.O. Box 7, Wilmore, KY 40390.
A celebration of life service will be held at Crosslink Church at a later date.

I met Bob while I was a student at John Wesley High School/College. He supported my ordination in The Evangelical Methodist Church in 1971. He believed in me! I conducted at least three revivals at Connelly Springs EMC and stayed in Bob´s and Vangie´s home. Bob was holiness and class personified. I am thankful The Lord allowed me to know this wonderful servant pastor, husband, father...friend!

I grew up in EMC when Bob was the pastor there. He was a great teacher of faith and what God does for each of us. He was not just the Pastor, he was one of us. He would play basketball with us and host youth meetings in his home and go the extra mile for anyone that he could. His smile and words would just grab you and hold your attention. He was a fine gentleman that I have much respect for and admiration. May blessings be with all of the family during this time of loss.

Pastor Bob was a wonderful and caring man. When he hugged you, you knew it. Even if he wasn't feeling his best he was more concerned about you. He is now healed of any health issues and beginning his walk with Jesus. You will definitely be missed. Until I see you again.

It´s been a long time ago that you came to our neighborhood. I can remember it like it was yesterday. Bob and Vangie are like family. Bob married me and carried me through a divorce. What a great man of God he was. He will be missed greatly. Love you Vangie and I know he´s maybe preaching to mom and grandpaw Bradshaw and Donna too. They´re having a great reunion up there. I´m truly sorry for this loss but Heaven gained an awesome soul. I remember when my Grandpa died. Preacher Gober came everyday. The day he passed I went out in the hall and Preacher Gober came out , put his arms around me and let me cry. What comfort and love he showed He cried too. He had a heart of love and compassion. RIP Preacher Gober I will never forget you. Till we meet again!
