Vernon Daniel McCall
February 28, 1940 - July 8, 2021
Mr. Vernon Daniel McCall, 81, of Morganton, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Carolina Caring Hospice, following a period of declining health.
Vernon was born Feb. 28, 1940, in Burke County, to the late Robert Elroy McCall and Cora Jane Benge McCall. He was retired from the maintenance department at J. Iverson Riddle Center and was a longtime member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Morganton. He was an avid beekeeper, a hobby which he shared with his wife, daughter and son in-law, and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his wife of 55 years. He was a devoted father and grandfather. His grandson, Ryan was his pride and joy, as they were inseparable, and his son-in-law was thought of as his son. His family and Jesus were the most important things to him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by numerous siblings, Truitt McCall, Guy McCall, Clara Colene Britain, Frankie Williams, Jerrell McCall, Lois Walsh, Charles McCall, Clyde McCall, and Clifford McCall.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Mildred Faye Randolph McCall of the home; daughter, Margaret Giese and husband, Stan of Valdese; and grandson, Ryan Giese of Valdese. Also surviving is a sister, Joyce Wright of Gaffney, S.C.; and brother, Dallas McCall and wife, Ruby of Morganton.
The funeral services will be held Saturday, July 10, at 11 a.m., at Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Morganton with the Rev. Terry Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., at Faith Missionary Baptist Church, prior to the service. The family also asks that COVID-19 guidelines and social distancing still be observed.
