Wayne Brackett Sr.

Wayne Tilman Brackett Sr., 59, of Brackett Lyles Drive, Morganton, died unexpectedly following minor surgery on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, in Charlotte. Born Sept. 1, 1948, in Wake County, he was a son of Clyde Harrison Brackett and the late Hazel Lucille Bollinger Brackett. Wayne excelled in tae kwon do, wrestling, gymnastics, golf, hunting, fishing and all outdoor activities. He loved nature and all of God's creation, and he had a special appreciation for his Native American heritage. Mr. Brackett was chief financial officer for Brackett Brothers Corporation and South-East Lumber Corporation which his father started in 1960. He was a devoted and loving husband, son, brother, father and grandfather. His wife, children and grandchildren were the light of his life. Surviving are his wife, Sheila Marie Johnson Brackett of the home; sons, Wayne Tilman Brackett Jr. and Bryant Christopher Brackett; a daughter, Kristin Marie Brackett Johnson; brothers, Ted Harrison Brackett and Steve Carroll Brackett; a sister, Theresa Brackett Lyles; and grandchildren, Katelyn, Austin, Kierstin, Paul, Tyler, Conner, Samuel, Madison and Garrett. The funeral will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Elders Tim Sheridan and Michael Dean Brackett officiating. Burial will follow in the Brackett family place of rest. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
