Addie Geneva Vaughn
LORAIN - Addie G. Vaughn, 85, formerly of Lorain, passed away Saturday December 22, 2012 at St. John Medical Center in Westlake OH after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Stotesbury W. Va. on March 14, 1927 to Samuel A Wilson and Carrie Walker Wilson. Her family later moved to Beckley, W. Va. where she spent her childhood and part of her adult life. She met and married Alex W Vaughn and they moved to Lorain, Ohio. Addie worked and retired from the Lorain Public Schools System. The students loved her and respected her no nonsense style. She was a life member of the NAACP, and an active member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Lorain and New Hope Baptist Church of Akron, Ohio where she and her husband moved in 2001. She loved to travel and was VP of C.J. Young & Associates.
Addie is survived by her daughters, Connie J. Young of Akron Ohio, Drema Hagwood (Herbert) of Lorain; a son, Alex W. Vaughn (Tamari) of Lorain; a brother, Leonard Wilson of Lorain; 5 grandchildren, Dallas Young Jr. of Massilon Ohio, Herbert Hagwood Jr., Shawnte (Nickolaus) Henderson, Andrea and Alexis Vaughn, all of Lorain; 4 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a special niece, Letishia Farrish; and a host of other loving nieces; nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Alex W. Vaughn Sr.; her parents, Samuel and Carrie Wilson; sisters, Cleo Hoskins of Lorain and Lillian Young of Beckley W. Va.; brothers, Columbus Haywood Wilson Sr., Samuel Wilson Jr., and Theodore Wilson Sr., all of Lorain.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 11AM until time of funeral service at Noon at Church on the North Coast, 4125 Leavitt Rd., Lorain OH 44053. Rev. Cynthia Carter-Smallwood is officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst.
