David Douglas Sherrard

1963 - 2018

David Douglas Sherrard, 54 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin, following complications of a heart attack.
He was born September 2, 1963 in Amherst. David was raised in Amherst and Brownhelm Township, graduating from Firelands High School with the class of 1981. He was a graduate of Hamrick Truck Driving School, where he received his CDL. David had made his home in Vermilion for the last forty-two years.
He was a manager at WalMart in Oberlin for eight years. David was previously employed at SGS as an inspector for Ford Motor Company in Lorain for twenty-eight years.
He enjoyed coaching his children and grandchildren's sporting activities and going with family to Cedar Point Park, where he could often be found winning prizes at the gaming booths for his family. David was an avid Cleveland sports fan. He was very athletic and enjoyed playing all sports.
Among those who will cherish David's memory is his wife of thirty-four years, Deanna "Dee Dee" Sherrard (nee: Whitt); his son, Derek Sherrard (Jessica) of Vermilion; his daughters, Melissa Sherrard of Amherst, Tanya Sherrard and Tiffany Johnson (John) both of Vermilion; his mother, Janet R. Smith (Gilbert) of Vermilion; his father, David Sherrard (Sherry) of Norwalk; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Chloe, Morgan, Olivia, Peyton, Derek Jr., Lillian, Andrew, and Amelia; and his great-grandson, Kaleb.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Dawn Showalter in 2017; and his step-brother, Steven Smith.
Friends may call Wednesday, June 27, 2018, from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Russ Nelson, pastor of First Assembly of God in Vermilion, will officiate.
