Edward Martincak Obituary

LORAIN - Edward S. Martincak, 85, of Lorain, died Friday December 16, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain after a short illness.
He was born April 6, 1926 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Ed served with the US Army in the 11th Armored Division during World War II and the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star.
He worked at Western Automatic in Elyria and then at Griffith Black Top in Lorain where he worked as an Operating Engineer for 35 years. Later, he worked at Erie Blacktop for one year before retiring.
Ed was a member of the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as an usher during mass and helped in the social hall kitchen. He recently joined Mary Mother of God Parish in Lorain.
Ed was a member of Ohio Operating Engineers Local #18 and a life member of VFW Post #451 in Lorain. He enjoyed sports.
He is survived by his children Edward M. Martincak of Palmetto, Florida, Richard Martincak (Pattie) of Lorain, Paul Martincak (Robin) of Germantown, Maryland and Mary Kay Bowen (Steve) of Lorain, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Catherine M. Martincak (nee Chervenak) on March 1, 2011, son David Martincak, parents Andrew & Rose Martincak (nee Gela), brothers Raymond, Anthony, Andrew, John and Joseph Martincak and sisters Margaret Vilevac, Mary Corey, Cecelia Zeller and Helen Webber.
The family will receive friends Sunday 2-4, 6-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:00 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at Mary Mother of God Parish, 310 8th St, Lorain. The Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor, will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Vermilion Township.
Memorial contributions can be made to Mary Mother of God Parish, 309 7th St, Lorain, OH. 44052.
