George B. Drda

George B. Drda, 91, of Avon, died Thursday, February 14, 2019.He was born Aug. 7, 1927, in Cleveland, and lived in Avon for over 60 years.He was a 1945 graduate of Benedictine High School and worked at Cleveland Electric Illuminating for over 40 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Avon, where he was the Choir director from 1964 to 2010, and member of its Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Lorain County Golden Crescent Chorus and the Knights of Columbus. His hobbies included gardening, golf, bowling, and wine making. He was very proud of his Slovak heritage.He is survived by his children, Jerome (Teresa), Teresa (Gregory) Drda-Saltis, Regina (Richard) Harris, Monica (Raymond) Klein, Anita (Michael) Exley, Virginia (Michael) Drda-Anderson, Daniel, Maria (Peter) Mutnansky, Patrick (Helene Lemieux); step-daughter, Madeline Suster; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Drda; brother-in-law, Leonard Chipchak; and many nieces and nephews.George was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna May Drda (nee Ebbeskotte); second wife, Ruth Drda (nee Suster); and infant daughter, Mary Drda; and siblings, Paul Drda, Ernest Drda, and Eleanor Chipchak.Friends will be received Sunday, 3 to 7 p.m. at the Misencik Funeral Home, 36363 Detroit Rd., Avon, where closing prayers will be Monday 9:15 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. mass at St. Mary Of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Avon. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Andrew Benedictine Abbey, 10510 Buckeye Rd., Cleveland, OH 44104.
