James "Tad" Henry Taddeo
SOUTH AMHERST – James "Tad" Henry Taddeo, 70 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain following a sudden illness.
He was born May 21, 1944 in Lorain where he was also raised, graduating from Lorain St. Mary Catholic School. Tad has made his home in South Amherst since 1973.
He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the beginning days of the Vietnam War. During his service he was aboard the U.S.S. Little Rock a guided missal launcher. Tad was employed at BF Goodrich/PolyOne in Avon Lake for forty-three years before retiring in 2009 as a supervisor. Tad along with his wife Marcia owned and operated the Amherst Travel Center. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in South Amherst. Tad was a twelve year member of the Board of Education for South Amherst School District. He was a member of the Amherst American Legion Post #118 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1662 in Amherst and the Wakeman Eagles Aries 4354. His hobbies included boating, sprint car racing and traveling. Tad's greatest joy was his children and grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events. He also enjoyed attending his Navy and high school class reunions.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-eight years Marcia Ellyn Taddeo (nee: Flew); his sons and their wives James E. and Patty Taddeo of Amherst, Jeffrey J. and Brandi Taddeo of Hilliard; grandchildren Alyse, Rachel, Macey, Madison, Jacob and Brianna; and his sister Judi Dietsche of Sun City, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Stephan Spicuzza, John Taddeo; and his parents Carmen and Theresa Sally Taddeo (nee: Mesaric).
Friends may call Thursday, June 26, 2014, from 4-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Friday, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Paul Eaton, pastor of St. John United Church of Christ of South Amherst, will officiate. Full Military Honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. John United Church of Christ Memorial Fund; 416 Leonard Street, South Amherst, OH 44001.
