Janet Bremke

1939 - 2023

Janet Bremke (nee: Toensing), 84 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, was called home to Heaven, December 24, 2023, following a full and meaningful life.Janet was born April 7, 1939, in Bay Village Ohio, graduating in 1957, from Bay Village High School. She married Bill on August 20, 1960 and they made their home in Amherst. As a young woman, Janet was employed at National City Bank in Cleveland. She later worked for Bay Village High School as a secretary. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Westlake and a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst where she had served as church secretary for twenty-nine years. Janet loved traveling and engaging in adventures with her family and friends. She and her husband Bill spent the better part of their married lives summering in Ontario, Canada at the family cottage on Fraser Lake, and wintering in Ft. Myers and North Port, FL. Wherever they were, family and friends would be engaged in meals and games, skiing, snowmobiling and ATV adventures. Genealogy was also her favorite past time. She and her husband enjoyed league bowling for many years and were even league champions. In her spare time, Janet could be found counted cross stitching, sewing, and doing needlepoint. She was renowned for her "Cottage Creations" greeting cards. Janet was also an accomplished organist and pianist and would share her gift whenever possible. Survivors include the love of her life and husband of 63 years, Edward William "Bill" Bremke; her children, Linda Nickel (Walt), of Gainesville, FL, and John Bremke (Kim) of Amherst; her grandchildren, Brian (Katie) Nickel, Michelle Bremke (Jeffrey Hall, Jr.), Kevin Nickel, Tommy Bremke, Scott Nickel (fiancé Kaya Dukes); and her great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Hall III, James Nickel, and Otto Hall.She was preceded in death by her son, Paul Bremke; and her parents Victor and Edna Toensing (nee: Hagedorn); and brothers Robert Toensing (Aline) and Carl Toensing (Jeanne).Friends may call Friday, December 29, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. Additional calling hours will continue on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School, 27993 Detroit Road, Westlake, Ohio 44145.The Rev. David Buegler, pastor emeritus of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Westlake will officiate.
