Sister Jeanmarie Dechant SND

Sister Jeanmarie Dechant, SND, 91, died July 7 at Notre Dame Education Center, Chardon.
Sister was born January 11, 1927, in Cleveland.
Her kindness and skill in teaching instilled confidence in her students to succeed in science, medicine, research and industry. Although she began her teaching career in elementary and high school, Sister Jeanmarie is most noted, remembered, and loved for her ministry at Notre Dame College, South Euclid, Ohio, in the field of chemistry. Sister developed innovative science programs for high school, traditional age and adult students, many funded by the National Science Foundation. She was a woman of prayer who cherished her community, her large family, her many friends and students-all she touched each day.
Sister was the cherished sister of Herbert and Sister Rosemarie, SND; dear aunt and great-aunt of many nieces and nephews; cousin and sister to the congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame, with whom she shared her life for 72 years.
Sister Jeanmarie was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Rose (Conrad) Dechant; and siblings, Kenneth (Marcella, deceased), Ruth Wensink (Norbert, deceased), and Jeanne Claire.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at Notre Dame Education Center, 13000 Auburn Road, Chardon, OH 44024.
Friends may call at the Center on Wednesday, July 11, from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with the prayer service at 6:30, and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:45.
