Jose Del Valle Obituary
LORAIN - Jose T. Del Valle, age 89, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Lorain, Ohio.
He was born on November 26, 1924 in Caguas, Puerto Rico to Quintin and Antonia (nee Tirado) Del Valle. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1952 and served his country under the rank of Sergeant during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged in 1955.
Jose was employed in the Rolling Mills Division of U.S. Steel for 37 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. He was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society and the Cursillo Movement.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carmen Arroyo Del Valle; children, Maria (Richard) Sanchez, Jose (Debbie) Del Valle, Jr., Carmen (Jim) Rademaker, Nora (Del) Young, Millie (Greg) Greggila, Lucas (Sharon) Del Valle, and Ana (Mark) Seidel; 22 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Eleuteria Arroyo, of Melbourne, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews in Florida and Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings.
The Del Valle family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Thursday, April 3rd. at 8:30 a.m. in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
