Sister Mary Catherine Romancik, SND, (formerly Sister Mary Roy) died March 9 at the Sisters of Notre Dame Center in Chardon. Sister was born June 21, 1928, in Cleveland and entered the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1946. She taught in secondary schools for over thirty years; fourteen of those years were at Elyria Catholic High School. After moving from formal classroom teaching, Sister became certified as a Pastoral Minister and then a certified Hospital Chaplain. Serving at St. Joseph/Lorain Community Hospitals and Community Health Partners was a ministry dear to her heart. She treasured the privilege of accompanying patients and families in the most vulnerable and sacred moments of life. Sister never hesitated to enrich the lives of all she met each day.She was a cherished aunt and great-aunt, dear cousin and sister to the congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame with whom she shared her life for 73 years.Sister was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Lottie (nee Stanczyc) Romancik and siblings: Raymond, Dolores Cingel (William, deceased) and Joseph (Carol, deceased).A Memorial Mass for Sister Mary Catherine will be celebrated on Friday, March 18, at 10:30 a.m. It will be live-streamed.
