Rita Maureen Barnard
BAINBRIDGE TWP - Rita Maureen Barnard (nee McDermott) age 91, a resident of Bainbridge Township since 1944, passed away August 8, 2012.
Loving and devoted wife of 72 years to the late George A. Barnard; loving and devoted mother to the late James (MaryCay), Margaret Saraney (Lyle), the late Patricia Muliett (Gregory), Robert (Gayle), Nancy Hastings, Kathleen Skala (Norman), the late Rita Lesesky (Alan), Elizabeth Redder (the late Ronald), Donald (Linda), Thomas (Barbara) and David; loving grandmother of 28 and great-grandmother of 35.
Rita was born in Elyria, Ohio on April 20, 1921, to Albert and Catherine McDermott.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Mary Kane and Joanne Lowery, brothers Albert and Michael McDermott and granddaughter Deana Saraney. She is survived by her sister Catherine Hahn (Philip) and brother Dr. Thomas McDermott.
Rita's joy in life was her family; every child, grandchild and great-grandchild was equally loved and brought a twinkle to her eyes. She loved to dance with her "best boyfriend", George. She was one of the founding parishioners of St. Joan of Arc Church in Chagrin Falls. Rita also enjoyed singing in the church choir, crossword puzzles, crafts, and playing cards.
Rita will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012, at Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home, 95 South Franklin Street, Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at St. Joan of Arc Church, 496 East Washington Street, Chagrin Falls, Ohio followed by interment at Bainbridge Restland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, St. Joan of Arc Church or a charity of your choice.
