Robert "Red Top" Young

1936 - 2021

Robert ‘Red Top’ Young was born February 15, 1936 in Martinsville Virginia to Willie and Mattie Young. He passed away May 26, 2021 at University Medical Center in Cleveland. He was a long-time resident of Lorain. He completed high school in Lorain Ohio and continued his education at Cleveland Music School in Cleveland Ohio. He found his love for music at 5 years old and played the piano for the family bands: The Four Lovers, 4 Young Lovers, Red Top And The Young Family and Red Ryder's. Robert received a Grammy playing with Robert Lockwood Jr and the All-Stars. He played with Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Dionne Warwick, Little Richard and Quincy Jones among other Motown artists.He is survived by his sons, Robert Young, Ricky Kamfolt and Pastor Kevin Fields; a godson, Terry Lane; special nieces: Monciella Elder, Carla Johnson, Garnettia Kelly, and Virginia Dixon; special nephews: Marvin Young, Larry Johnson, Michael Johnson, Louis Johnson and Lonnie Johnson, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Mattie Young; a son, Kenneth Young; a sister, Iney Johnson and brothers, Henry Nick Young, George Willie Young, Muncie Odell Young, Jesse James Young and John Albert Young.A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 11:00 AM Cathedral of Praise Worship Center, 4545 Elyria Ave, Lorain, Ohio 44055.
