Ronald Bomback Obituary

Ronald “Ron” “Bommer” Bomback, 79, of Lorain passed away peacefully in his home on July 18, 2021, following a lengthy illness. Ron was a loving father and an amazing “big” brother.Ron became an officer for the Lorain Police Department in 1971, later becoming a sergeant, and remained there until he retired after 27 years of service. Shortly thereafter, he began working as a bailiff in Lorain, most recently serving under Judge Elwell, and retired from that position just recently. Ron and his wife Sharon had rooms in the barn at Jameson Homestead Antiques in Avon for over two decades. They both shared a love for antiques and Ron had a passion for woodworking.Ron played right field for many years on several locally sponsored softball teams as well as for the LPD team. Even in his later years, he jogged for miles at a time on the sidewalks of Lorain. Ron loved animals (Indian, Chewie, The Ducks, Boog, Shiloh, Nash, Joe, Iszy, TR), classic cars, music, large-scale painting projects, and making people laugh, but mostly he loved his two sons and his family. Ron always had a project he was working on and never allowed himself an idle moment. He enjoyed having dinner at his son Mike’s house on the lake and going out to dance or just listen while his son Brian played music with his band. Whether at AMVETS, at a car show or at family gatherings, Ron would tell jokes and simply be the life of the party. Strangers would quickly become his friends due to his kindness, generosity, and down-to-earth nature. It is no wonder that Ron was well liked and respected. He truly was a one-of-a-kind man. May you rest in peace and know you will be forever missed.Surviving is his son Michael (Virginia) Bomback of Lorain, son Brian Bomback of Vermilion, brother Gary Bomback of Elyria and sister Cathy (Marty) Kelly of Amherst. He was preceded in death by wife Sharon (nee Matesick) Bomback, parents Julia (nee Duray) and Frank Bomback, brother Leslie Bomback and nephew Lee Bomback.

Our condolences go out for the Bomback family. I grew up 2 doors down from Ron. I always liked watching him working on his cars. He was a wonderful friendly person, and a great police officer. He will be greatly missed. RIP Ron.

Only saw Ron rarely after I moved from Lorain in the late 60's, but my old friend from Fairhome elementary school, Longfellow, and Lorain High was always the same. RIP dear man.
