Olathe - Dorothy Ann Kapler, 85 of Olathe, KS, died April 9, 2021 at Menorah Hospital in Overland Park, KS.
She was born September 15, 1935 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of John and Dorothy (Manderino) Fortino.
She was united in marriage to William Charles "Bill" Kapler September 3, 1955 in Scammon, KS. He survives of the home.
For 50 years, she and Bill lived and raised their children in Baxter Springs, KS. In 2014, they moved to Olathe to be closer to family.
Dorothy was a member of the Church of the Ascension Catholic Church in Overland Park.
She was a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother. She was a proud mom that loved to talk about her kids. Her smile was contagious and made friends wherever she went. She was a devout Catholic of Italian decent that loved to cook elaborate holiday meals and was known for her spaghetti and meatballs.
Additional survivors include 2 daughters: Kim Watkins (Bernie), Overland Park, KS and Kathy Schreiner, Overland Park, KS; a son: Kevin Kapler (Cheryl), Nashville, TN; a brother Ron Fortino (Mary), Olathe, KS; 3 grandchildren: Evan Schreiner (Christi), Ethan Schreiner, Eran Schreiner; 3 great-grandchildren: Greyson Schelstrate, Brody Schelstrate & Hudson Schreiner.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Mike Fortino and his wife Joan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am Wednesday April 14, 2021 at the Church of the Ascension Catholic Church in Overland Park with Msgr. Thomas Tank as Celebrant. The family will receive friends at 9am until the rosary begins at 9:40am. Graveside committal services will be 2pm Wednesday at the Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS.
