Jake Fincher Obituary

Jake Steven Fincher, 30, of Baldwin City, Kansas, formerly of Pittsburg, went to heaven to be with Jesus and his heavenly Family on February 10, 2014.  He is now with his Father, Mark Fincher, his Grandma Bernieta and Grandpa Lisle Fincher and Grandma D.D. Pearson.

Jake was born in Pittsburg on July 12, 1983 and attended Pittsburg schools from kindergarten until he graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Master's of Arts degree in ceramics in 2009.

Jake loved sharing his art, music, and talents of making people smile and enjoy life, just making life better. He worked and volunteered at United Way of Crawford County for seven years, he worked with Special needs students at the Pittsburg Middle School, and he assisted in teaching art at George Nettels and Meadowlark Elementary. He enjoyed his work at the Pittsburg Public Library working in the children's department. He also assistant taught at DeSoto High School and worked at the Pittsburg Studio One with his dad and went on to take portraits and many sports pictures. He currently loved his job as Activities Director of the Baldwin Care Center where he shared his love of music, art, and that infectious Smile and attitude with the elderly residents there.

This fall he showed and displayed many pieces of his art work at the Maple Leaf Festival in Baldwin City, Kansas and was excited to sell several of his very unique pieces. He also coached Samson's soccer team. Playing piano, guitar, singing and writing music was something he loved. He loved people.

Jake was of Methodist faith.

Jake leaves behind his earthly family: his loving and adoring wife, Chelsea and three sons, Samson Rai Tobias, Sulivan Augustus and Raleigh Blue all of Baldwin City, KS; his mom and stepdad, Verna Lou and Gary Smith of Pittsburg; his sister, Carly Rae Fincher of Delray, FL; two step-brothers, Ryan Smith of St. Louis, MO and Eric Smith of Webb City, MO; stepmom, Ronda Fincher of Pittsburg; and his grandpa, Vern Pearson of Pittsburg.

His family was so very important to him and he was a very proud father. Jake will be sadly missed by so many.

Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday (Feb. 15) at the First United Methodist Church, Pittsburg with Rev. Jim Akins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the parlor. The family suggests memorials to "My 3 Sons Education Fund."  These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th Street, Pittsburg, KS  66762.  The family will be at the home of Jake's mom and stepdad, 1286 S. 240th St., Pittsburg.  Following the services, Jake will be cremated and private family burial will be held at a later date. I just met Jake last fall when he set up his art work at Maple Leaf Festival. I liked him immediately and could tell how much he enjoyed life and making art. When we had a mess in the gym to clean up during the festival, he was very helpful to us (BPW) in the entire process, while keeping a positive and lighthearted attitude. It was plain to see that he was a very giving and unselfish person. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting him and am happy that I have a beautiful piece of his artwork that will keep his memory alive. I'm sure that he contributed a great amount to many lives, and am sorry his own life ended so soon.

Jake was one of my art students at PHS. I know we are not to have favorites but I couldn't help myself. Some kids are so special. Jakes positive attitude and friendly way made him one of my favorites.

Verna, I remember the day I was getting ready to put mom in the car after lunch at Chatters and Jake saw us, made a special trip over, helped get mother in, hugged her, and she touched his hair and said I love your hair. He truly cared for the elderly.

"And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” May you be comforted by God through his Word. Know that He is always near to lovingly care for you in your time of need. With deep sympathy,
