Lucy Kathleen O'Reilly Pyle McFall, 93, of Girard, Kansas, died at 6:48 a.m., Monday, June 26, 2017 in the Westridge Retirement Community in Girard.
Lucy was born March 12, 1924 in Girard, a daughter of Patrick Arthur and Harriet E. (Peak) O'Reilly. Lucy worked in her father's drug store in Girard, and at age 11, she began as the pianist at the Kincaid Memorial Baptist Church, now the First Baptist Church in Girard.
She graduated as class president from Girard High School in 1942 and she attended Kansas State Teachers College, now PSU, where she studied music.
Lucy married James Walter Pyle on May 16, 1944 in Girard. Jim preceded her in death on April 25, 2000 after 55 years of marriage. She married B. R. "Blackie" McFall on July 9, 2001 in Fort Scott, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 2011.
Lucy was a homemaker, a piano teacher, and secretary at Va-Co-Hy Printing in Girard, Midwest Minerals and at the Crawford County Jail.
She and Jim lived on Army bases in Texas and Georgia, later moving to Emporia, Kansas and Wichita, Kansas before establishing their home in Girard in 1952.
Lucy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Girard and held various offices there, the Girard Music Club for over 50 years, PEO Chapter BG in Girard, and AARP.
After Jim retired from the post office, he and Lucy served as staff members at the American Baptist Assembly in Green Lake, Wisconsin for 6 years.
Lucy enjoyed her family, music, gardening, sporting events, traveling to all 50 states, and playing games and bridge.
Survivors include her sons, Jim Pyle, and his wife, Connie, of Kimberling City, Missouri; Don Pyle, and his wife, LaDonna, of Frontenac, Kansas; her daughters Carolyn Mathis, and her husband, Kelly, of McPherson, Kansas; Nancy Fredette, and her husband, Jim, of Sun City, Arizona; Valorie Gardner of Overland Park, Kansas; Jan Dorsey, and her husband, Kent, of Farlington, Kansas; Dianne Mitchell, and her husband, Jim, of Frontenac, Kansas; Kathy Meilahn, and her husband, Bob, of Rosendale, Wisconsin; grandchildren Josh Gardner, and his wife, Jeri; Rachel Garard, and her husband, Luke; Ryan Mathis, and his wife, Gabrielle; Andrew Fredette, and his wife, Carmel; Mike Fredette, and his wife, Kristen; Noelle Fredette; Tyler Pyle, and his wife, Tara; Lindsey Schuster, and her husband, Matt; Sarah Dorsey Petrie; Gracin Dorsey; Jason Mitchell, and his wife, Heidi; Ben Mitchell; Boone Pyle and his wife, Kayla; Dylan Pyle; and Jacob Meilahn; great-grandchildren Dawson and Emma Gardner; Harrison, Meadow and Eden Fredette; Meryn Mathis; Liam Watson; Charlie Fredette; Grace Mitchell; Barry Pyle; Zachary Mathis; Grace Wilson; and one due in August; sisters-in-law Marie Pyle of Girard; Marge O'Reilly of Ralston, Nebraska; and Judy Pyle of Naples, Florida.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Harriet Hendricks and Velma Gillette; her brothers, Patrick O'Reilly, Jr., Justus O'Reilly, George O'Reilly, and Bob O'Reilly.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Girard with Pastor Scott Bennett officiating with Reverend Jim Fredette and Reverend Kent Dorsey assisting. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m., Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard. Friends may call after noon on Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Girard, the Girard Alumni Association, or the Girard Community Foundation and these may be left at the church or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
