Owen Zeigler

1965 - 2016

Owen Paul Zeigler, 50, of 10023 SW 184th Way in Vashon Island, Washington. He died Jan. 14, 2016 in Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.
He was born Feb. 4, 1965 in Coffeyville, Kansas and had lived in the Washington state area about 4-and-one-half years. He married Mary Rhodes on March 15, 1991. He worked for the U.S. Army Department of Defense since 2010.
Owen was a graduate of Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville in 1984. He earned his bachelor's degree from Pittsburg State University in 1989. He was a member of the Pittsburg State ROTC and was commissioned as an officer in U.S. Army in 1989.

Owen served in the Missouri Natiional Guard, the Kansas Army Reserve and served combat tours in Kosovol during Operation Enduring Freedom. He also served tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was medically retired from the Army in 2010 after earning two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars and numerous other military medals.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Deane Zeigler. Survivors include his wife, Mary Zeigler of Vashon Island, Washington; his father, Pinkston Zeigler of Mindenmines, Missouri; and daughters Kanstanze Zeigler of Pittsburg; Giana Zeigler of Seattle, Washington; and Samantha Zeigler of Vashon Island, Washington. 

A celebration of his life was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 at the Pittsburg American Legion. He was buried with military honors and a memorial at the Fort Scott National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2016. Arrangements were by American Funeral Directors of Renton, Washington.
