Daniel Hicks,92, of Morris, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at Joliet Area Hospice, with his loving son Kevin, daughter Vicki and his numerous grandchildren by his side. He was born September 24, 1929, in Marseilles, the son of Forest and Essie (Wolfford) Hicks.
Dan was a Korean War Veteran. He served with the united States Air Force from 1950-1953. He married Bernice Kopczick in 1954 and they spent 63 beautiful years together. She preceded him in death on August 3, 2017. He worked for the post office, retiring in 1983. After retirement he continued to work as the head custodian for Shabbona School in Morris and the Morris Hospital as their first courier. Dan and Bernice loved to travel together. They took many trips in their early years to Nashville and their favorite spot, Branson, Missouri. They took many trips with friends to Las Vegas and the dog tracks and would take several cruises to various destinations. He loved listening to country music, but Dan and Bernice really enjoyed the Polka festivals in Wisconsin. He would love to stop in Minnesota at his favorite fishing spots. He was a member of the Eagle Club FOE in Morris for many years, which was where he met many of his lifelong friends.
Dan is survived by his son Kevin M. Hicks, his daughter Vicki (Ray) Peel and two estranged daughters; grandchildren Matthew Osmanson (Kenzie), Marc (Breanne) Osmanson, Jacob Hicks (Lindsey), Robbi Kate Hicks (Jeremy), Jason (Barb) Semlar, Krystal Semlar, David (Flavia) Juergensen and Jennifer (Matt) Miller; 6 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and 2 great grandchildren on the way! He is also survived by his brother Kenneth Hicks.
Burial for Dan was held at Mt. Carmel, in Morris, Illinois, with military honors by the Morris Color Guard.
