Allan Buckalew Obituary

1957-2024

Allan Arthur Buckalew Jr., 66, passed away on January 21, 2024, at St Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, from end stage hepatocellular carcinoma.

He was born in Lakewood, New Jersey to Carolyn Buckalew (Griswold) and Allen Buckalew Sr.

He is survived by his beloved wife Alice Buckalew, their two children Allan Buckalew III and Andrea Nason, his son-in-law Curt Nason, his two grandchildren River and Rowan, and his four siblings Patricia Bidleman, Carolyn Bose, Richard Buckalew, and William Buckalew.

Allan lived a full and active life. He served in the Army along with his brother William at a young age. He was awarded the following: Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge, and the Expert Infantryman Badge among others. After his military service, he made his way to Minnesota where he met and married his wife and raised his family. He owned and operated his own automotive garage and an excavation business.

He enjoyed welding, hunting, being outdoors, old western movies, his family, and friends. One of his greatest joys was becoming a grandparent to River and Rowan, whom he loved deeply and cherished immensely.

He was a hard man to many but had a generous heart and an iron will that carried him through many hardships in life. He was devoted to those he cared for, and wouldn't hesitate to give his time, expertise, and resources to those who needed them. Working in his bobcat, regardless of the reason, was one of his favorite things to do. The first heavy snow and he would be out plowing out the neighborhood at the crack of dawn.

He was loved and cherished by his family and friends and respected by the professional community he worked within. He was a larger-than-life man whose absence will ripple across the generations. In his last minutes, his army bred immortality ended, and with his last breath, he grew wings to take him home.

Buck helped me out of a few pinches with my sewer. When we owned Capp's he was one of the colorful customers we had. He had a heart of gold for those he called friend. Prayers and blessings for his family.
