She was born in Little Falls, MN on October 23, 1939, to parents Ben and Ethel Weiss. The middle child of five, Ruth's siblings are older brothers Ben Weiss, Jr. of Princeton, MN and Marvin Weiss of Fridley, MN, and younger sisters Donna (Weiss) Hilmerson of Little Falls, MN and Mary Jane (Weiss) Thompson of Minnetonka, MN (deceased). Ruth grew up in Little Falls, MN and went to school at St. Mary's Catholic School. After graduation, she attended nursing school.
While in school, a friend and classmate introduced her to the love of her life, Donald Lucas, from St. Cloud. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married on July 19, 1958 in Little Falls.
Ruth was the best Daughter, Sister, Wife, Aunt, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother one could ever have! She leaves behind her husband Don (married 67 years); two children, Mary Beth (Lucas) Sheldon and Douge Lucas; grandchildren Rachel (Sheldon) Hofstra, Julie Sheldon, Thomas Lucas (17), and Nick Lucas (13); and great-grandchildren RJ (9) and Gracie (5), who will never forget the love she brought to their lives. Ruth treasured spending time with the grandkids and great-grandkids, never failing to play hide-n-seek when they were little or baking cinnamon rolls with them...a favorite family treat.
Ruth and Don moved dozens of times across the country with Don's service in the Air Force when they were first married and then with his career. No matter which state they lived in, Ruth's favorite hobby was sewing. She was a Master Seamstress and even served as the President of the Minnesota Sewing Guild.
Her nature was to always be helping others, whether it be an elderly neighbor needing a ride or a hot meal, or any of her friends and family members, she was always the one to be there for others. Her faith in the Lord was unwavering and she would want us to take comfort that she will be at his side for eternity. Though she will be missed every day, her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
