Ann Sweeney Obituary

MOUNT GILEAD - Mrs. Ann Galehouse Sweeney, Age 87, of Mount Gilead, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Tuesday evening, September 16, 2025, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, holding hands with her husband of 67 years, John Thayer Sweeney.

She was born on October 20, 1937, in Doylestown, Ohio, as the only daughter of the late John Stanley Galehouse (1908-1991) and Olive Irene Bowers Galehouse (1913-1995). Ann was the sister of John Stanley Galehouse Jr. (1936-2023) and Donald Edward Galehouse.

Ann was the mother to one daughter and three sons, and she loved spending time with her husband, children and their spouses: Pamela Ann Sweeney, John Jeffery Sweeney and Pamela K. Sweeney (spouse), Todd Franklin Sweeney and Michelle R. Sweeney (spouse), Gregory Neil Sweeney and Yvonne M. Sweeney (spouse).

As a proud grandmother and active great grandmother, she loved spending time with all her grandchildren and their spouses: Jeffery and Rachel Sweeney and their daughters Claire, Alaina, Taylor, and Faith; Kyle and Kristy Sweeney and their sons Jack and Caden; Colin Sweeney; Christin Sweeney; Ryan and Stephanie Sweeney; David and Erynn M. Mattera and their children Nico and Ramona; Craig and Rebecca Sweeney and their sons Leo, Jude, and August; Kevin and Cailey Sweeney and their daughters Eleanor and Marigold; John and Catherann Sweeney; Luke Sweeney and Vivian Hunter (fiancée); Alexis Sweeney; and Brett Sweeney.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Gilead and active with church activities such as the election night supper. Her quilting group frequently made quilts that were donated to the children at the Flying Horse Farm. In addition to being a lifelong artist, she enjoyed golfing, cooking, sewing, and quilting.

Ann was a force who empowered others. In addition, she was a competitive person who liked a challenge and liked to see things done correctly. With a positive outlook and an infectious smile, she was always thrilled to hear a funny story and loved making others happy. Her excitement for life and perpetual optimism will live on in her family members and friends.

Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 pm on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Mount Gilead Chapel. On Saturday, September 27, 2025, there will be a 11:00 am service at the funeral home with Pastor Christine Burns officiating. A graveside interment ceremony will follow at River Cliff Union Cemetery in Mt. Gilead. Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead are honored to have been chosen to serve Ann's family.
