MARENGO - Betty C. Salyer Ruggles, age 88, of Marengo, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Country View of Sunbury following a recent decline in health.
The consummate caregiver, she lived her life, caring for the needs of others, especially her treasured family. She was born on April 17, 1936, in Vanceburg, Kentucky to the late Charles and Eleanor (Stander) Carver.
She was blessed with two wonderful partners in life, her first husband of 32 years, Paul Salyer, who passed away in 1984, and her second husband, also of 32 years, Jacob "Jake" Ruggles, who passed away in 2017.
An avid bowler throughout her life, she bowled in the leagues at Morrow Lanes Bowling Center in Cardington. She was very competitive in every activity, including horseshoes and softball. She was a member of Centerburg Enterprise Baptist Church and attended the Community Church in Florida. She also raised a large garden, both flower and vegetable, canning the bounty from her efforts.
Her interests were many, she raised Siamese cats, was an avid NASCAR and OSU Buckeye fan, enjoyed camping, and took pleasure in mowing her large 7-acre lawn. Forever feisty and a lover of all animals, she enjoyed cooking breakfast for her family. One of her greatest joys was having the opportunity to babysit and help raise her granddaughter, Jessie. That was a truly special time for both of them. Needless to say, she possessed a work ethic second to none, and winters with Jake, were spent in the Bonnet Lake, Avon Park, Florida area.
Always social, Betty considered herself very fortunate for her many blessings and with a happy-go-lucky nature, she enjoyed hosting parties and dinners. She will be remembered for her caring and loving ways.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son Paul D. "Buddy" (Phyllis) Salyer, daughter Frankie (Phillip) Crothers all of Marengo, granddaughter Jessie (Nate) Clark, great-grandchildren, Kasey and Luke, stepchildren, John, George, Karen, and Toni, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Gilbert Carver in 2005, and sisters Emma "Freda" Storer in 2025 and Barbara Cotsamire in 2010.
