George L. Woodson, Jr., 91, formerly of Edison, Ohio, passed away on February 22 at Kingston Residence in Marion, in hospice care after a short illness related to Leukemia.
George was born December 5, 1929 in Roanoke, Virginia, the only child of World War I veteran George L. Woodson and Louise (Marcum) Woodson. During his youth, he lived in Roanoke, Washington, DC and Baltimore, Maryland before moving to Ohio. He later met and married Joan Kincade on June 7, 1950. During 64 years of marriage, they raised a daughter and two sons in their Edison home.
George was a civilian employee of the Department of Defense, first in Marion, Ohio, at the "Depot," then later in Columbus, Ohio. He retired from public service in 1985, as a branch chief at the former Defense Construction Supply Center in Columbus.
During retirement, George found enjoyment from his grandchildren and great grandchildren, service to the Edison Town Council, and his cats. He was also a regular visitor at the Morrow County Courthouse to do research on county and state records.
George's family is spread throughout the United States. His loving children are Patty (Ron) Risher of Mount Gilead, Jim (Julie) Woodson, of Marion, and David (Mary Ann) Woodson of McLean, Virginia. His wonderful grandchildren are Joanna, Ryan, Adam, Marie, Megan, Alyssa, Laura, and John. Great grandchildren are Grant, James, Loralei, Jackson, Avery, Dina and Sophia.
He was predeceased by his wife Joan, who passed away in 2015.
Those wishing to make a memorial contribution to remember George are asked to consider a local humane society or animal rescue organization.
A private family service will be observed as he is laid to rest next to his wife in Rivercliff Cemetery. The family will announce a public celebration to come when the safety of all can be taken into consideration.
