Jack Long Obituary

Jack L. Long, age 85, of Mount Gilead, passed away at his home Friday morning, April 8, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

On May 19, 1936, Jack was born in Edison, Ohio, one of six children of the late Coral Long and Libby (Hershner) Nufer. He graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1954.

Jack married the love of his life, Marilyn M. Long, on June 30, 1956, at Trinity United Methodist Church. They shared over 45 wonderful years together as husband and wife before she preceded him in death on January 20, 2001.

A man of faith, Jack was a longtime member of the Harmony Chapel United Methodist Church. His faith was quiet, but very dear to him.

For more than 40 years, Jack worked as an erector for HPM in Mount Gilead. He was also a Special Deputy Sheriff in Morrow County for many years and a charter member of the Morrow County Antique Tractor and Equipment Association.

Jack was an avid gun enthusiast. He was always reading articles on guns, hunting and reloading. He possessed a wealth of firearms knowledge. He also enjoyed playing the guitar. He didn't like playing for large groups, but would often get together with friends to play.

Jack was a family man through and through. He was kind, thoughtful, and a gentleman at all times. He enjoyed reminiscing of the old days and had great respect for our country and the service members serving our country.

Left to cherish Jack's memory are his three sons: Jack (Doreen) Long, Ron (Linda) Long, John (Christine) Long, all of Mount Gilead; eight grandchildren: Heather, Jay (Sarah), Heidi (James), Joe (Sarah), John (Amber), Casey (Erin), Kaitlyn, Colton; 14 great grandchildren: Aaron, James, Abbie, Emily, Libby, Boone, Emma, Chloe, Olivia, Wyatt, Adriana, Adaline, Amelia, Evelyn; and a great-great grandson, Theodore.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings: Elmer, Galen, Salo, Angela and Sam "Forrest;" granddaughter, Jennie; and his cousins who were like brothers, John "Toad" and Ronald.

Jack's family will greet friends from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services to honor and celebrate his life will begin there at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Leslie Mahaney officiating. Burial will follow at Rivercliff Cemetery.

Jack's family would like to give a special "Thank You" to Dr. Freundlich and his staff; Dr. Ahmed, Dr. Hintz, and the staff of Hospice of Morrow County for the wonderful care they all provided to Jack.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack's name may be made to Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338.
